Heidiisms Guide to DTLA: Featuring the Moxy & AC Hotels and Shot of Art

Updated: Sep 19, 2023

Hey Loves! Looking to have an adventure in DTLA? Check out the Moxy & AC Hotels which has two hotels under one roof. Located across the street from Crypto.com Arena (formerly the Staples Center) this is the perfect location for a weekend getaway!

We did a girl's weekend and kicked the night off right at Level 8! Level 8 is a first of its kind establishment, created by the Houston Brothers, that features eight different dining and entertainment venues all on one level at the Moxy & AC Hotels. We loved being able to have one of the best culinary delights of a dinner, find a hidden speakeasy and lounge at a rooftop pool bar all within one location- with no driving!

We started at Que Barbaro which features South American cuisine through the tradition of live fire cooking. Everything we ordered was full of flavor and delicious 🤤 Some of our favorites include: PROVOLETA, TIRA DE ASADO, PICANHA, HUMITA and PAPAS.

After we filled our bellies, we made our way to a hidden speakeasy called Mr. Wanderlust which is a lively piano bar, jazz lounge, and late-night destination with a theatrical spin- the piano with live performer actually spins around from the circular bar. About every 30 minutes, you will be surprised with music performances that fill the speakeasy live music 🎶

To end the night, we headed outside to the rooftop pool and carousel bar called Golden Hour. Golden Hour features two pools, ample beach cabanas and night beds to relax upon as well as a spinning carousel bar! The signature cocktails are also scrumptious and we recommend "The Painkiller" 🎠

It was so nice after a night of play to quickly go back to our room for some rest & relaxation. We feel asleep to the city skyline through our floor-to-ceiling windows and woke up feeling rested and ready to explore some more!

In the morning, we headed back up the elevator to the 34th floor which contains La Lo La Rooftop. With almost 4,000 square feet and 270 degree views of the city, we had the best Sunday Brunch complete with full a Bloody Mary Cart to make our very own morning cocktails.

A few hours later, we headed to one of my favorite places- Shot of Art. Shot of Art is located only a few minutes away from the Moxy & AC Hotels. Shot of Art is a creative experience that allows you to make art all while having one of the best times! Today we choose the Dripping & Fluid Bear experiences. For the Dripping, we went one step further and battled it out with a dripping pink paint battle onto our matching white sweatsuits. The results were amazing and we left with two very unique outfits that were custom designed with paint 🎨 Our Fluid Bears came out amazing and we can’t wait to pick them up next week once they have fully dried and been glazed 🐻
